M.I.Y PROJECT - Updates/Newsletters
M.I.Y PROJECT
MUSIC INFLUENCING YOUTH
IN 2008 BLAKELOCK RECORDS PLAN TO CARRY OUT A PROJECT DIRECTED AT THE YOUTH WITHIN THE SOUTH AUCKLAND
REGION. WE WILL VISIT HIGH SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS THAT REGISTER WITH US WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO RECORD
THEIR MUSIC IN AN ALBUM FREE OF CHARGE!! THIS IS TO TARGET OUR YOUTH
AND GIVE THEM INSPIRATIONS AWAY FROM THE STREETS. IT ALSO HELPS RAISE FUNDS FOR THE SCHOOLS IN OUR COMMUNITY. ALL GOING
WELL IN 2008, WE WILL CONSIDER EXTENDING THIS PROJECT AND DEVELOPING THE PROJECT.
AS OF 18TH MARCH, WE HAVE NOW EXTENDED THIS PROJECT TO RANGE THROUGH THE SOUTH AUCKLAND SCHOOLS AND
TO LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTRES, YOUTH CENTRES IN SOUTH AUCK.
If you are under 20yrs
of age (19yrs or under) and live in South Auckland, and would love an opportunity to record your music (up to a 30 minute
album) for free - then send us your details to be included in the M.I.Y Project!!!
NO RECORDING COSTS, NO MIXDOWN COSTS, NO MASTERING COSTS, NO COSTS TO BUY YOUR
MASTER!!!
ALL THIS ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!
Our vision is to help the community outreaching and assisting our youth where we can. At the moment society
seems to been having quite alot of problems and concerns in general with our youth in South Auckland. By contacting the High
Schools, Community Centres etc, getting the kids excited about music, we hope that they will see a different side of
life and steer away from gang related issues. They will be able to express themselves in the music they create here
at the Studio.
Once every 6wks we will randomly choose a school/organisation that will be picked to record
a 30minute album. The selected party will have 4 weeks to complete their album. It will be up to the
schools to decide which students will be involved in the recordings if a school is chosen, perhaps by talent quests or by
identifying students they believe are deserving of the prize. This is also a prime opportunity for schools to fundraise
money for their schools. There are no recording costs, the only cost will be for the actual CDs. Once the schools/organisations
sell the CDs to the public however, they will not only recover their costs but make a profit for their school/organisation
for more resourses for the kids, equipment, upgrading the grounds or centres etc.
We will post details of the school or organisation that is currently recording, what type of album it is, when it will
be available and how to purchase a copy of the CD. At the time the first school/organisation is chosen, we will
also pick the next one so there is enough time for students and teachers, and the centres to fundraise for
costs of the CDs and to prepare and practice for their recordings.
On our website, students, teachers, parents, centres, members of the public will be able to see what is happening with
the school recordings and also fundraising events held by participants in this project. All the community need to get
involved and help our young ones through these times of strife. Lets provide a better future for our children!
At the end of the year, we will hold one big concert, where the selected schools/organisations
will perform and guest judges will choose an overall winner for 2008. There will be prizes and lots
of fun entertainment during the event. Each participant will also receive an even portion of profits
made from this event towards resourses or equipment for our youth.
